Be Careful What You Wish For!
Monday, July 20, 2009 at 5:21pmThursday, July 16th. We received a call from a friend of ours, who had gone to Nashville, TN., on vacation. She wanted me to know they were sitting at “Rudy’s Café” behind the Fiddler’s Inn, eating a big old cheeseburger. She also said, I wish you guys were here too. Last year, there were eight of us there on vacation and we had a blast. After we got off the phone, we started discussing the possibility of going and surprising them all. My appointment for eye surgery had been rescheduled and we had nothing else planned. We packed our bags later that night and set out early the next morning. After arriving we got a room at the Fiddler’s Inn, and walked over to Ruddy’s place, hoping they would be there eating dinner. They were and the looks on all their faces and the screams was priceless. We stayed two days and had a wonderful time. Everything was great; our friends, the shows, the food, the entertainment. First there was the taping of the “Crook and Chase” show. (It will air on Thursday betweet 8:00 and 9:00, on RFD channel 245) we were all a part of the audience at the “Nashville Palace.” They all looked younger in person and just as nice. Our men were mesmerized by Lorrie Ann, but, I’ll tell you, Mr. Charlie Chase could put his shoes under my bed any old time. They were interviewing Louise and Arleen Mandrell. Roy Clark was also there, but using a cane, because he recently had a knee replacement. We seen many big star while at the Grand Ole Opry; such as John Conlee, Riders In The Sky, Jack Greene (Also came into Rudy’s Café) Rhonda Vincent, Jimmy Dickens, Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys, Daryle Singletary, Bill Anderson, The Whites, Hal Ketchum, Jean Shepard, Jim Ed Brown, and Roy Clark.. Mike Snider was also there. He puts on a good show. Between Rudy’s place and John A’s, we heard some great singers. I can’t leave out two more stars we were impressed with. One was a lead guitar player named Leon Rhodes, who used to play for Ernest Tubb, and Mac Wiseman. Jimmy Newman (Alligator Man) June Sterne, Charlie Louvin, and we got a big dose of a women who used to be on “Hee Haw” by the name of Roni Stoneman. Some were “stars” and some were “want-a-be” stars, and some were “should be’s”. They were all just hoping the right person would come along and hear them sing or play. I could write more about the fun we had, but what happens in Nashville, stays in Nashville. We hated leaving and not going on to Pigeon Forge with the others, but we said our good-byes and headed for home.
P.S.
Charlie Louvin, I sing his songs; "The Angels Rejoiced". I love that song. "I Don't Love You Any More" and "The Family Who Prays"
